Should you exfoliate?

Yes. YES. Absolutely.

But why is exfoliating so important?
Because it gives you smoother, more radiant skin. Increases elasticity, strengthens skin barrier. Exfoliating removes impurities , toxins and dead skin cells, making room for new healthy skin cells to grow.

And healthy skin is happy skin.

We currently offer two body scrubs that you can find on our website almost year round, plus a seasonal scrub from time to time. And if you already know us, you know we never use any synthetic ingredients in our products. We believe in the power of the plants!

The first scrub we are going to talk about is actually the first product we ever made. The reason we started Madonna Lily! Our Coffee + Coconut Body Scrub, Diana used to make it for us all the time, years before we even considered turning our hobby in a business. She used to give jars of it to all her friends, and we knew we had something going when they were asking for refills.

The star ingredient in this body scrub is coffee. It’s the high content of caffeic acid that increases collagen production and promotes blood flow which tightens and tones tissue and can reduce the appearance of cellulite. Collagen is a protein produced by our cells that helps "hold" the skin together, keeping it looking younger and giving it firmness and elasticity. But don’t worry, there are no actual coffee grounds in it, so your shower won’t be a mess after using it! We make a slow coffee infusion and get everything we want from the coffee without the after mess. And that’s what makes our Coffee Scrub better than other!

Coconut oil is an excellent moisturizer for your skin, because of its naturally antibacterial and antifungal properties.
Mix these two together and you get an amazing body scrub that will wake your skin up and help you get ready for the beach!

The Coffee + Coconut Body Scrub is the perfect pick-me-up when your skin is feeling meh.

The ingredient that will exfoliate your skin is sugar. This natural alternative to harmful plastic microbeads is a gentle abrasive that helps remove dead skin cells and makes room for healthier, glowing skin.

Next is our Dead Sea Salt + Oats Body Scrub. Hydration and healing go hand in hand with this one. Loaded with natural exfoliants, this body scrub is sure to leave your skin feeling soft and reinvigorated!

Dead Sea Salt contains many minerals that reduce inflammation, purify pores and strengthen skin tissue. Also works to eliminate toxins and balance your skins’ natural PH levels.

Oatmeal is particularly known for soothing and healing, we use steel cut organic oats which are high in antioxidant properties that can rehabilitate skin damaged by UV rays or pollution. Oats are suitable for all skin types, including those prone to acne, eczema, and psoriasis. This is why this scrub is amazing for sensitive skin and anyone suffering from eczema. That is the same reason we add honey to it. Antibacterial and antiseptic, naturally cleanses and absorbs impurities from your pores. Raw honey is known to speed up healing properties of the skin and can even help fade scars.

Another ingredient is shea butter stimulates collagen production which helps grow new cells to replace and restore dead skin cells. Contains vitamins A, E, F, & D and is widely considered one of the best anti aging agents for the skin.

None of our scrubs ever contain plastic microbeads, that are so so very harmful for the environment! We don’t want that to end up in the ocean and eventually back in our bodies.

But all of our scrubs contain at least one ingredient that will keep your skin moisturized- you won’t even need to apply lotion the day you use it! Which by the way, we recommend using it 1-3 times a week. No need to extra exfoliate or apply too much pressure when using it.

And now a few words about our gentle Mocha + Mint Face Exfoliant.

Meet the face exfoliant that naturally revitalizes the skin and leaves you feeling soft and fresh!

If you’ve been reading this post, you already know why we use coffee in it! But what about the other ingredients?

Cocoa: the high content of polyphenols provides naturally occurring antioxidants and can increase elasticity of your skin, helping with fine lines, wrinkles and the appearance of scars.

Goat milk is full of vitamins and minerals that play key roles in healing damaged skin and reducing the appearance of fine lines. Rich in selenium which enhances your skins’ natural tolerance to UV rays, goat milk is also commonly used for fighting dry skin. If you have time, we recommend leaving this on as a mask for 5 minutes and then exfoliating.

Pro Tip: we like to apply it at the beginning of our shower, leave it on while we shower and exfoliate at the end. If you already have a gel wash, you can also mix a squeeze of that with a dash of the exfoliant, makes it easier to apply!

And lastly, mint. As a natural astringent, mint works to shrink skin tissue and reduce the amount of oil in the skin. The high content of salicylic acid helps to loosen and shed dead skin cells.

If you’ve been trying to find the perfect exfoliant for sensitive skin, you can always give it a try by ordering a sample first from our website. And, as a bonus, we offer refills for this in compostable bags. No need to discard of your jar when you finish it!
